Worldwide Flight Services (Ireland) Limited trading as WFSI was established in Ireland in 2005 to provide Air Cargo Handling services to the airlines and the Irish air cargo community. The founders, Gerry Jackson and Brendan Byrne who were colleagues in Aer Lingus, saw an opening in the market for an independent handler, offering quality facilities and services to airline and freight forwarders alike.
In 2005, Gerry and Brendan approached Worldwide Flight Services, the global market leader in the area of air cargo handling, with a view to establishing operations in Ireland. By the summer of that year, they had formed a joint venture, secured facilities at all Irish airports and commenced handling their first customer, American Airlines. United Airlines were quickly on board and ever since the company has seen continual growth year on year:
August 2008 – Procured business and resources of Menzies World Cargo in Ireland
January 2009 – Secured enlarged warehouse and office facilities at Dublin Airport
January 2009 – Appointed cargo handler for Delta Airlines in Ireland
May 2009 – Procured the business and resources of Dunwoody Airline Services at Dublin
January 2010 – Appointed as Irish air cargo handler for Swissport Cargo Services in Ireland
January 2011 – Appointed handler for Singapore Airlines in Ireland
October 2011 – Appointed handler for US Airways and SAS in Ireland
April 2012 – Opening of new Cargo Terminal at Cork Airport
April 2013 – WFS move into a new home at Shannon Airport
January 2015 – Opened a second cargo terminal at Dublin airport to service the new
Emirates Contract
Gerry Jackson has many years’ experience in air cargo handling. He has worked in all areas of the business culminating in his role as Cargo Operations Manager at Aer Lingus with responsibility for the entire Aer Lingus air cargo network. Gerry is very well known and respected within the air cargo community both in Ireland and abroad.
Brendan Byrne is a Chartered Accountant and has held many senior positions in Aer Lingus in the areas of Finance, Information Technology, E-Business and Cargo. Prior to leaving the airline, Brendan was General Manager Cargo with full commercial and operational responsibility for cargo within the airline. Brendan is a non-executive director of several large Irish companies
